Transition of Qualification and Callsign Services
The AMC Amateur Radio Office has been working closely with the ACMA to support a smooth transition of qualification and callsign services.
In support of this transition, please note the following cut-off times for services provided by the AMC Amateur Radio Office:
New Assessor Applications | Close 5pm on 30th November 2023. |

RPL Applications | Close 5pm on 12th January 2024. |
Examination Orders | Paper Assessment Requests – close 12 Noon, Friday 12th January 2024 (Completed assessments to be received into the office by 2nd February 2024.) |

In response to the recent ACMA Amateur Radio Update (March 2022) survey results relating to changes to the Advanced Syllabus, the AMC Amateur Radio Office will be changing to a HAREC compliant Australian Advanced syllabus ( (PDF 260.5 KB)) effective 15th August 2022.

2x1 Contest Callsigns
The ACMA have confirmed that the rules for 2x1 callsigns do not permit the use of the AX prefix when using a 2x1 callsign.

2x1 Callsigns
There were some minor technical issues experienced at that 10am launch yesterday of the 2x1 callsigns. If your preferred callsign did not appear as available yesterday but is appearing on the Publicly Available List today, please email your details to the office amc.ar@utas.edu.au.

Amateur Radio Assessors and Examination Candidates
This is to let you know that as of the date of this announcement candidates will no longer have to provide a photograph with their application form.
Assessors will still be required to verify the identity of candidates from photograph ID as normal.

2x1 Competition Callsigns
AMC Amateur Radio is in the process of finalising an online callsign application system and the hobby will be updated when this comes available.
In the meantime, we would ask that people do not make any applications for these call signs because:
- The incorrect form is being used
- The fee has not been set
- Call signs cannot be reserved
- The monies will be refunded to you

Processing time changes – Amateur Radio callsigns
Due to the recently announced changes to the callsign template and the large amount of callsign variations received, please be advised that the ACMA have now granted an extension in processing times as follows:
- Until 31 October 2020, the AMC Amateur Radio Office will process all callsign applications within 45 business days (previously 15 business days).
We would request that unless the matter is urgent, please email AMC rather than telephoning.
This will allow the Amateur Radio Office team to maintain all other services within the expected 15 business days.
Updates to the Publicly Available Callsigns Database
We are also working with our IT Department to update the ‘Publicly Available Callsigns Database’ to match the new callsign template. We apologise in advance for any delays experienced due to this, but we will have it rectified as soon as possible.
We thank you for your understanding and patience during this very busy time.

Please be aware that we are currently amending our systems and forms for the new 2 x 1 callsign template (e.g. VK1Z). We will advise when we are ready to issue these callsigns.

As you are aware there is now a gradual relaxing of the COVID regulations for face to face examinations.
We are working with the University to develop a checklist as guidance to allow you to hold face to face examinations in premises for which there is a formal COVID Safe plan in place.
You will be notified when this has been signed off and the guidelines will be sent to you which should be in the next few days.
In the meantime the remote assessments remain in place and our thanks to those who have been conducting these.

The AMC Amateur Radio Office is presently receiving numerous enquiries regarding recent announcements to facilitate access to digital modes by foundation licences.
ACMA and AMC are currently discussing implementation of the changes.

Due to the current medical emergency all examinations have been suspended.
If you wish to obtain an amateur radio qualification, the AMC Amateur Radio Office is currently implementing a remote assessment process.

Please be advised following the recent developments relating to COVID-19, the AMC Amateur Radio Office, under direction from the University of Tasmania policy, will cease all face to face teaching and related activities from Monday 23rd March, this will include the AMC Amateur Radio assessors.
No further face to face examinations are to be conducted from this date and no examination papers will be issued from the office. New developments, including the 2x1 Callsigns will be on hold until the situation has resolved.
All examinations received before the 23rd March will be marked as per normal.
Our administrative teams are working both on and off campus which may also impact normal operating efficiency.
Thank you for your patience as we organise ourselves for this new normal.
