Maritime experiences on offer at the 2019 Australian Maritime College Open Day

Ever imagined yourself at the helm of one of the world’s largest ships on a busy waterway. That’s just what attendees at the Australian Maritime College Open Day can experience on August 10, 2019.

AMC’s world-class facilities include simulators which can virtually put you on the bridge alongside expert staff navigating through the busy traffic of Sydney Harbour.

The fully immersive training simulators make you feel like you are really there avoiding ferries and yachts on the beautiful blue water with the Harbour Bridge and Opera House in the distance.

The equipment used by largest shipping companies to train staff and AMC’s ocean seafaring students alike is just part of one of the most exciting days on the University calendar.

You can downsize to the AMC’s laser sailboat simulator and test your ability to manoeuvre through the Harbour’s water hazards.

The drama of a simulated “Abandon Ship” can be experienced at the AMC Survival Centre, one of the most advanced maritime training centres in the Southern Hemisphere.

On Open Day AMC opens its campuses to the community and showcases the unique lifestyle and quality study opportunities that are available.

  • Join us on a behind the scenes tour of the world-class facilities including one of the world’s largest towing tank, model test basin, the autonomous underwater vehicle laboratory, the cavitation research laboratory, navigational and engineering simulators and a fleet of training vessels.
  • Hear firsthand about life after graduation and the career opportunities in the maritime and other industries from a range of AMC alumni who are presently at different stages of their careers.
  • You can also hear from AMC’s strategic partner, the Naval Shipbuilding College, about a lifetime of career options arising from Australia’s $90 billion, 40-year Naval Shipbuilding Program.
  • There will be a chance to meet college staff and students to discuss study options, scholarships, pathways and careers as well as informative presentations and demonstrations.

Our aim is to make sure you leave us informed, inspired, and motivated to start your higher education journey. There will also be a range of family-friendly activities, food, entertainment, and giveaways.
