Girls enthusiastic about engineering workshop

The Australian Maritime College played host on Wednesday 28 August 2019 to 100 Year 9 girls from 10 Launceston schools, as they learnt about their potential futures in engineering and science.

Power of Engineering is a not-for-profit that aims to change the perception of engineering to one as a pathway of creative thinking, teamwork and problem-solving. It has been running free one-day events for female students in Year 9 and 10 across Australia since 2012.

Co-hosted with Hydro Tasmania, today’s event followed a similar event held on Tuesday at the University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay campus in Hobart.

“The key message of the Power of Engineering is that you don’t need to be a maths genius to study engineering,” the University’s Outreach and Placement Officer, Susie Haley, said.
