So much to see and do

As a student at AMC, you are part of the university's vibrant and welcoming community with access to a range of social, recreational and sporting activities. Find out more about the various clubs, societies and volunteer activities available to you on the Student Life website.

With a growing population of half a million people, Tasmania sits 240kms (150 miles) south of Australia (map). We are an island state with national parks, mountain ranges, a thriving music and art scene, gourmet food and wine, friendly bars, shopping and a multi-cultural and active lifestyle.

The Cataract Gorge Reserve in Launceston offers a variety of activities including white-water rafting, nature walks, mountain bike trails, abseiling and rock climbing all just a short walk from the Launceston CBD. It's the perfect blend of urban lifestyle with nature on the doorstep. If you need a change in scenery, Melbourne is only 50 minute flight with any major airline or take your car on the Spirit of Tasmania which travels daily between Devonport and Melbourne.

Our main campus at Newnham provides students with a relaxed and comfortable lifestyle and access to accommodation, student services, banks, library, post office, cafes and restaurants. The second campus, based at Beauty Point delivers courses in vessel operations. The training vessels Bluefin, Stephen Brown, Skipjack and Riveresco are moored here. The AMC Marine Firefighting Centre is located at Bell Bay about 40kms north of Launceston city. This facility is used for fire training education for students and staff.

Accommodation

Our campus offers a range of student accommodation options. Living in a supported student community is a great way to experience university life and we offer accommodation solutions that will suit everybody. On-campus accommodation is an integral part of the university lifestyle. It gives students the opportunity to meet new people, have convenient access to classes, facilities and study groups, get involved in university activities and student associations and make friendships for life. We have flexible catering options to suit all budgets, or cook for yourself in one of our self-catering kitchens.

For students who wish to live off-campus, UTAS also offer a service that helps students find off-campus housing. Find out more about accommodation.
